Cranial cavity is the space formed inside the skull. It contains the brain and its surrounding meninges, portions of the cranial nerves, arteries, veins and venous sinuses. The presence of cerebrospinal fluid makes a cushion for safety of brain inside the cranial cavity.
The cranial cavity is formed by fusion of 8 cranial bones. These are frontal bone, occipital bone, sphenoid bone, ethmoid bone, two parietal bones and two temporal bones.
The capacity of an adult human cranial cavity is 1200-1700 cm3
